Discussions of equity were common in my household as a child and this instilled in me a strong passion to be the voice for those who do not have one. Whether it is about gender, race, religion, education, or socio-economics status, I believe we should all be granted the same opportunities. I am driven by this calling, to break down these barriers of inequity we bump into on a daily basis. There is no time like the present and no generation better equipped to ring the bell and reconstruct the preconceived ideas we have about the way the world functions.
I hold an Honours Bachelor in Health Sciences (HBHSc) with a minor in Global Studies from the University of Ottawa and a Masters in Medical Sciences in Global Health (MMSc) from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.
I combined my fascination with human health and passion for human rights almost immediately upon starting my studies. I founded a global health mentorship program (CSIH MentorNet) with the aim to bridge the barriers between well-established professionals and keen Students and Young Professionals (SYPs), directing the program for 4 years and transforming this idea into an annual summit. I've worked in global health education and communication for over 7 years, with organizations such as the University of Ottawa, the Canadian Society for International Health, Karolinska Institute, Child Family Health International, Innis Communications, This Week in Global Health, the Consortium of Universities for Global Health, Swedish Healthcare, Stockholm School of Economics, and my own consulting firm, Jackson Consulting International.
