In November, Women in Global Health (WGH) had a unique opportunity to provide a training workshop at Emerging Voices for Global Health (EV4GH) Young Researchers & Change-makers pre-conference, prior to the 'Fourth Global Symposium on Health Systems Research: Resilient and responsive health systems for a changing world' in Vancouver, Canada. EV4GH is a 3-week training for emerging global health workers that are involved in research in the global south to build their research skills and increase their research capacity skills. The WGH workshop focused on teaching our global health emerging voices to apply a gender lens as global health researchers. From this workshop, participants acknowledged that they do notice a gender bias at the individual level as well within their institutional space in research and that more needs to be done to address it. Additionally, participants felt that they didn’t have the space to discuss the barriers they noticed and were energized to go beyond conversations about the issue and engage in critical thinking about how they can implement change in their own space to create a more gender equal environment.

American Public Health Association (APHA) Annual Conference Panel
Is leaning in enough?: The role of intersectionality, gender and public health leadership
Co-organized with the Global Health Council, APHA and Public Health Institute, the session presented information and data about gender equity and intersectionality in public health leadership and highlighted the Women in Global Health movement. A panel discussed how public health leadership could become more equitable and proposed solutions to overcoming glass ceilings.
Kelsey Suemnicht
& her podcast Women in Diplomacy
Kelsey Suemnicht is a Masters in Public Diplomacy graduate of the USC Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism. She is co-founder of Young Professionals in Foreign Policy in San Francisco and has worked for the U.S. State Department, Foreign Policy Magazine, and The Leadership Program.
The Women in Diplomacy podcast is a series of mentorship interviews featuring inspiring women working in international careers. It is part of The Foreign Policy Project, an educational mentorship program that seeks to inspire young women to pursue global careers through skill building workshops, job shadowing, and mentorship opportunities. The goal of the podcast and this project is to nurture more diverse voices in foreign policy through challenging (and changing!) the current gender ratio among international relations practitioners.

Gender Networking Meet & Greet at #HSR2016: Was held on the 16th of November, hosted by Research in Gender and Ethics (RinGs) and Women in Global Health. This event was a gender networking meet and greet, gathering those interested and working in gender and health systems. Attendance: 25-30.

UN Women: Transformative Leadership: Leading for Gender Equality and Women’s Rights
November 9-11 2016, in Geneva, Switzerland
"The progress towards equality for all women and men remains a long path ahead of us, despite many achievements to date. The Training Centre hopes that this course can support managers and decision makers to gear their leaderships towards advancing gender justice and women’s rights in whatever spheres of influences they have.”
The training gathered 25 participants from governmental offices, bilateral agencies, civil society and non-governmental organizations, UN agencies, and private businesses. This training course sought to strengthen capacity and knowledge of managers and organizational leaders to advance gender equality, women’s empowerment, and women’s rights agendas with their organization contexts and mandates through applying Transformative Leadership to one’s work.
