Women Leaders in Global Health Conference

Women in Global Health is proud to be implementing partners in the Women Leaders in Global Health Conference, a first of its kind that saw over 400 men and women from 68 countries convene at Stanford University in 2017. The second conference will be held at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine on November 8th and 9th, 2018.

Women are vital to the advancement of global health, making up 75% of the healthcare workforce - yet occupying less than 25% of influential leadership positions.

Building on last year’s hugely successful inaugural event at Stanford University, USA, the 2018 conference will:

highlight emerging and established women leaders in global health
engage in the latest thought leadership on advancing women in global health
support mentoring and skills building opportunities
support women in all forms of leadership from local communities to global organisations, from science to politics

Attendees will hear from leading women on some of the most urgent health issues facing the world today, including humanitarian crises, non-communicable diseases, and environmental health and climate change.

Women Leaders in Global Health Conference 2017

Women in Global Health were the implementing partners to the inaugural Women Leaders in Global Health Conference at Stanford, held on October 12th, 2017 at Stanford University. This one-day conference highlighted emerging and established women leaders in global health. We founded Women in Global Health with the vision of having an event that would bring women and men together from across the world to discuss and actively work in pursuit of gender equality in global health leadership and are thrilled to see our vision come together.

The conference had an incredible collection of speakers and attendees, with 390 women and 20 men representing 68 countries, and focused on the following areas:

Why gender matters in the global health workforce
Economics, rights and social/political perspectives on gender equity
Short presentations on great work by women leaders
Personal stories on overcoming barriers: breaking glass ceilings, avoiding glass cliffs
Empowering marginalized women in patriarchal environments
#HeForShe: Engaging men in creating change
Tools for gender analysis
Work-life balance in global health

Pre-Conference Executive Presence Workshop

As a woman, have you ever felt hesitant to volunteer for a new opportunity because you didn’t feel certain you could execute all the steps required? Have you ever found yourself working hard, reaching goals, and waiting to be recognized with a promotion that never comes? What if, as a woman, you could learn what it takes to feel powerful, commanding, and able to create new opportunities for yourself? This interactive, fun, and practical workshop will showed women how to increase their executive presence and to be more commanding and

confident in pursuit of greater influence. With video clips, exercises, thoughtful conversations, and

engaging activities, each woman ledt feeling inspired to take action, present herself differently

to the world, and feel more confident.

Goals:

Participants will improve their ability to identify barriers to visibility and executive presence.
Participants will learn tools to increase their power and presence in order to elevate
their impact.
Participants will be inspired to change how they present themselves to the world.

In preparation for this first-time event, Global Health Corps organized a Twitter Chat on September 12th, one month prior to the conference. Women Deliver, She Leads Africa, and Stanford University Global Health participated in this 1-hour discussion about the importance of women's leadership and mentorship to advance community, public, and global health.
